Summary[]
Count Seiran and Kiki Seiran open the harvest festival at the the Seiran domain. Kiki recalls her conversation with Mitsuhide, after he rejected her confession of love and proposal of marriage. Though she still welcomed him to stay at the Seiran estate, Mitsuhide said that he was already settled at a nearby inn and asked if he could still attend the harvest festival. Kiki was surprised to learn that Mitsuhide was reminded of the festival because Hisame reminded that they had been invited. Afterwards, Count Seiran was disappointed to have missed Mitsuhide's visit and that he still hasn't had an opportunity to meet Shirayuki and Obi, while Kiki tells her father that they need to have a discussion after the festival.
In the present, Kiki greets Hisame when he arrives at the festival, and they both muse at how Mitsuhide hasn't appeared yet. When Hisame sees Mitsuhide reluctantly loitering around, Hisame asks if Kiki's husband has been decided yet as he's still publicly seen as her suitor, and then asks Mitsuhide to join him for a drink. After Mitsuhide relays Kiki's proposal and his own response, Hisame remarks that Mitsuhide's reply seemed more for a comrade-in-arms than to someone professing her love and calls Mitsuhide a coward for hiding his true feelings. Hisame's comment spurs Mitsuhide to speak with Kiki again.
While Count Seiran and Hisame eavesdrop, Mitsuhide tells Kiki his response hasn't changed but he'd like to tell her his true reasons for rejecting her proposal. After he learned that Kiki would have to eventually return home and accept a suitor, Mitsuhide reflected on the matter and concluded that he was not destined to be a family man and he would always put Zen as his foremost priority. As a result, he realized he couldn't change to be Kiki's husband and is prepared for Kiki to cut ties with him, but there are no people he loves in the kingdom more than Zen and Kiki. Remarking that it's fine to want different things in life, Kiki accepts Mitsuhide's second rejection with a smile. Meanwhile, Count Seiran and Hisame appear to console Mitsuhide, though he's not crying, and Kiki comments on their audacity.
