Kirito leads Shirayuki and Obi to the secret playground where he and his friends have seen the dully shining water described in the old tome as the source of the illness currently plaguing Lyrias, and as where to locate the plant which is the ultimate source of the toxins and the cure. Along the way Obi tries to lighten the mood by offering to carry Shirayuki, and then jokingly claiming to have carried Kiki before. Shirayuki's disbelief forces him to rescind the statement, though he has apparently carried Zen before.

When they reach the cave Kirito informs them of his regret in keeping the place secret which reminds Obi that the research in Lyrias has not been being properly reported to the capitol, which means at least one of the researchers has been keeping secrets too. Kirito finally starts showing signs of poisoning and collapses, needing Obi to carry him the rest of the way so that he can give directions to the "shining water". Unfortunately there are no plants or seeds in the water, and it seems to be flowing into the cave from above, where Obi does find a few seeds. Shirayuki notes that the water's heat is making it steam, causing whatever is in it to become airborne as mist.

After bringing the seeds and Kirito to the Pharmacy Institute to be turned into medicine and for treatment respectively Obi and Shirayuki return to the cave to track the source of the water. They find a cave containing a hot spring, the vine with large glowing flowers that is the source of the illness, and most surprisingly of all Shidan, who seems to be irritated they located the plant.
