Touka Bergatt (トウカ・べルガット; Touka Berugatto) is the former head of the Bergatt House, a historically powerful house in Wirant. After his treasonous acts came to light he was arrested and stripped of his title as head of the Bergatt House which then passed in its diminished state to his younger brother Tsuruba Bergatt.
Appearance[]
Touka is a lithe man with sharp judging eyes and wavy short hair.
Personality[]
Evil and cynical, he used his power as head of the Bergatt house to maliciously try to take back the Bergatt power over the northern part of Clarines that was stripped away by former queen Haruto Wistaria during his father's reign as the Head of the Bergatt house. He is the one responsible for poisoning and killing his own father in order to take over and become the new head of the Bergatt house.
History[]
As a child, Touka was spiteful, arrogant and entitled. His father, while harsh, spoiled him and made him feel entitled to the Bergatt's property, which later led to him murdering his father in order to obtain and try to regain said property when he felt his father wasn't doing enough to regain it. After Izana was enthroned as king, he started a plot to try to manipulate or kill Prince Zen before the prince can take his place in Wirant. The first visible phase of this plot manifested as a number of attacks on various young noblemen who were thought of as prospective husbands for Zen's aide Kiki Seiran, the heir to a powerful earldom in her own right. His victims included young Lord Tisua, young Lord Sion, young Lord Valerie, Sir Hisame Lugis and his own younger brother Tsuruba Bergatt. Eventually Touka's ally the younger and knighted Lord Tohz said he had uncovered proof in a letter dropped by one of the attackers that Zen's most trusted aid and long time companion Mitsuhide Rouen was behind the attacks. While it was obvious to those who knew him that this was a frame-up, the prestige of the houses whose sons had been harmed meant that Mitsuhide was arrested and imprisoned leaving Zen vulnerable. Touka's plan fell apart due to Zen's personal knight Obi uncovering evidence of him conspiring with house Tohz and hiring sellswords from the criminal underground as well as Touka's own brothers turning against him. He also underestimated Kiki Seiran and Hisame Lugis who put a wrench in his plans by realizing House Bergatt was behind the attacks before any proof emerged, and Hisame even released Mitsuhide from his imprisonment without authority to do so.
